AI Integration for Complex Legal Tasks

We engineer your LIAs to work together in specialized workflows designed to break complex tasks into discrete components that each LIA tackles individually for improved accuracy and consistency.

Workflow Orchestration represents the pinnacle of our progressive value chain, building on Foundation Data and LIAs to create sophisticated, purpose-driven AI workflows.

While Foundation Data ensures LLMs understand your business context, and individual LIAs apply that context to specific tasks, our Workflow Orchestration services enable these assets to work together as a cohesive system to tackle complex tasks that would overwhelm an individual LLM.

The unique value of orchestration lies in creating coordinated workflows where each LIA in the chain can dedicate all of its training, effort, and focus to fulfilling its role and handing its slice of the project off seamlessly to the next LIA.

This is similar to how an M&A lawyer might loop in tax or ERISA specialists to comment on specific sections of a merger agreement. Rather than attempting to handle an entire complex legal task at once, the task is broken into smaller, specialized components.

Key Benefits

  • Lawyer-Controlled Workflow: Builds in human oversight at critical decision points, so your team remains in control

  • Improved Consistency: Standardized workflows with specific checkpoints can reduce the variability that comes from different team members approaching the same task in different ways

  • Knowledge Integration: Orchestrated workflows explicitly incorporate your Foundation Data and Legal Frame as relevant at each stage, ensuring your unique business and legal context are applied with precision throughout the process

  • Efficiency Gains: Pre-configured workflows eliminate the need to recreate complex prompt chains, reducing setup time and allowing your team to focus on higher-value analysis and decision-making

  • Future-Ready: Lays the groundwork for additional automation (agentic workflows, for example) as your team's comfort and AI governance mature

Why Orchestrate?

Let’s look at contract review to illustrate the value of orchestration.

When lawyers review contracts, they don't approach it as a single monolithic task.

Instead, they naturally shift between different mental modes: first ensuring they understand the scope of the task and business context, then reaching out for relevant SMEs or stakeholder input, then evaluating specific clauses against playbook standards, precedents, and legal judgment, and finally creating redlines.

Flowchart depicting workflow orchestration for lawyers, comparing human and AI processes. Top section shows a human lawyer performing tasks: understanding context, evaluating review standards, and preparing redlines, leading to analysis. Bottom section shows AI models named Scribble, Barri, and Sam performing similar tasks using task summaries and optimized prompts, resulting in analysis.

LLMs currently don’t handle “mode” switches as easily as humans do. Rather than asking a single model to handle all aspects of a complex legal task at once, we break the process into specialized sub-components, and assign each to an LLM specifically tuned for that function.

How Does Orchestration Work?

Orchestration involves carefully tuning each of your existing LIAs to be collectively aware of one another and their shared purpose within a specific workflow.

Each orchestrated LIA understands:

• Its individual role within the broader process

• The inputs it will receive and outputs it will generate

• How its work connects to the overall workflow goal

This collective awareness enables each LIA to tailor its output specifically to what the next LLM in the chain needs to perform its job.

Specificity vs. Generality

Orchestrated LIAs excel at supporting the specific workflow for which they've been precisely tuned, but may not perform as well outside their designated workflow:

General-Purpose LIA Orchestrated LIA
Handles a wide range of tasks within its domain Optimized for specific workflow stages
Not aware of broader workflow context (unless told in prompt) Understands its place in the process chain by default
Outputs may need to be adapted for the next stage Targeted outputs designed to feed directly into the next stage

For example, while a general-purpose Scribble LIA can transform any notes into organized summaries, a “contract review” orchestrated Scribble knows its output feeds directly into Barri. This orchestrated version will capture specific details needed for contract review prompt creation, automatically honing and structuring information to fit what Barri needs.

Customers who purchase our orchestration services have access to both general-purpose AND orchestrated versions of each LIA.

Orchestration Approaches

We offer two distinct approaches to implementing workflow orchestration, tailored to your team's specific needs:

Turnkey Orchestration (Flat Fee)

For customers who have purchased more than one of our LIAs, our Turnkey Orchestration can optimize them for specific use cases as part of an integrated workflow.

Options range from basic task summary creation to complete contract review workflows, with each level building on the previous one.

Custom Integration (Hourly)

For customers with existing systems and specialized workflows, our Custom Integration service adapts SLI solutions to your specific environment.

We work with your preferred platforms or SaaS solutions to create a tailored implementation plan that maximizes value while minimizing disruption.
